A report on peer learning event held June 29 - July 1, 2006 in Istanbul, Turkey. Sustainability is a key issue for most grantmaker associations and the group that met for the peer learning event (PLE) on this topic from 29 June to 1 July 2006 was a good cross-section of the field. Some of the participants were from organisations two years old or less, while two others were among the tiny handful created in the 1940s. Size and range of members varied widely as did levels of experience of the participants themselves. Some have had concentrated periods to assess and stabilise their organisations while others are developing sustainability strategies. Two organisations present, while sharing the role of promoting and supporting philanthropy, are not based on a membership structure and thus brought yet another perspective. The countries involved were Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, Malaysia, the Philippines, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Turkey and the USA (one organisation US-wide, others covering Northern California, South Florida, and south western states): thus the cultural, economic, legal and historical contexts were extraordinarily different too. The differences did not dominate discussion but in some ways enhanced it with multiple perspectives and varied approaches, and occasionally requiring some careful teasing out of the meaning of terms or tactics in different contexts -- always an enlightening process.
WINGS annual report describes the work of WINGS in its second year in Brussels. The report shows a growing and increasingly active and communicative global network. It also describes activities, endeavours to convey a sense of how this very experimental network is developing and examines frankly some of the challenges being encountered.
This paper sets out how WINGS-CF came into being, its accomplishments and current activities, and the style of the network. An earlier version was written for participants in a WINGS-CF face-to-face meeting in Berlin on 2 December 2004. All activities and publications have had direction and involvement from the network. Participation in activities has been high.
Report on peer learning event held 18-20 September 2004 in Washington DC, and hosted by the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers.
A report on peer learning event held July 6-8, 2004 in Makati, Philippines. For some time, WINGS has had a commitment to addressing the need expressed by grantmaker associations and support organisations to better understand the ways in which corporate givers differ from other types of grantmakers, and thus to foster better promotion and services. The main focus for the WINGS network was agreed as helping to support corporate grantmakers in giving money, products and other resources, rather than replicating the work of other agencies in exploring how to develop companies' broader corporate social responsibility activity.
WINGS convenes peer learning events for grantmaker associations and support organisations in the WINGS network. Peer learning events are face-to-face meetings which have proven effective in creating a learning environment among senior staff members of organisations participating in the network.
